🎄 Happy December 17th! 🎄
Today it's about a great everyday tool that can make walking easier and more enjoyable 🐾🚶♀️. Many people experience challenges with passing various temptations and distractions on the walk, such as other dogs 🐕, a lost lunch box 🥪 or people passing by. Here it can be really beneficial to teach the dog to follow a treat.
For most people, getting your dog to follow a treat 🍖 sounds straightforward, but when something else seems more exciting, it can be challenging for your dog to stay focused. This simple tool is therefore mentioned here in the 24 little everyday tips, as it can be easy to forget – but it can make a big difference!
When learning this, it can be smart to use a treat tube or something the dog can lick so that it constantly gets a reward 🐶.
Practice at home by letting your dog follow your hand with a treat, maybe even while you walk past a tempting fish cake on a plate 🐟😉. This can help your dog understand that it pays to stay focused, even with exciting distractions nearby.
Start the exercise in a familiar and safe environment 🏠, and then gradually take it out into the "real world," where the dog can learn to follow the treat and ignore the surroundings. This results in a calmer and more focused walk in the end 😊👏.
Enjoy your training!
