Vacationing with a dog requires extra planning, and there are more things to take with you. But that's the kind of vacation I like best. When Marvin is with us, it means that, among other things, there are more walks in nature, and being in the moment is the most important thing. For me, vacationing with a dog is a good way to really slow down and just be.
Gradually, there have been more and more opportunities to take your dog on holiday in Denmark. Since my husband and I love taking Marvin on our day trips or holidays, we often specifically look for places where dogs are welcome.
On the ferry
And on the way to Samsø, you already feel on the ferry in Hou that dogs are welcome. We usually sit in the dog salon. The guidelines are on large posters. There is a water bowl, and there are cleaning supplies in case the dog has an accident. It is also allowed to have the dog on the sun deck, or it can sit in the car during the crossing. Marvin spotted a seagull in the window and had full focus on it, much to the amusement of the others with dogs.

Cottage
We have been to Samsø with a dog before. We had rented rooms there. For an extra fee, you can bring a dog with you to many accommodation options on the island. But this year we chose to rent a summer house where dogs are allowed. We were given a dog fence to put around the terrace so that Marvin could walk around the summer house freely.
The beach
The cottage was close to a beach where there weren't many people, so the long leash was found, and Marvin enjoyed swimming with the rest of us. The many hours in salt water and sand did give Marvin sore paws. But the island has two vets, so it was easy to get good advice and after a few days of paw waxing, his paws were fine again.

The Samsø Labyrinth
Even though we have been to the island before, we looked for inspiration online before the holiday. There were a lot of good suggestions. Sights, restaurants and nature areas where we could take Marvin with us. One day we went for a walk in the Samsø Labyrinth, where there are more than 5 kilometers of good trails in the forest. You can choose different topics with questions. The more questions you answer incorrectly, the longer the trip will be. It was a little longer, but Marvin didn't mind taking a longer route in the forest at all. There was plenty to sniff around.
Out in nature
Samsø has a very beautiful and varied nature. Coast, forest, meadows, bogs, heathland and more, each with its own animal and plant life, and there are many good hiking trails.
There are also many bike paths. We cycled around this time, but we have previously rented bikes and dog trailers. You can of course also bring your own equipment.
We had a fantastic trip to Samsø, and we will definitely come again!
