When the interest in dogs is combined with the interest in horses

Når hundeinteressen forenes med hesteinteressen

I have never hidden the fact that my main interest is my dogs and my dog training. My secondary interest is riding.

In my dog training I have lots of ambitions and competitive goals. I dream big and set goals for my training and train almost every day with my dog. We have fun in the meantime – because I have the world's best PellePirat who LOVES all training. His drive makes it possible to train a lot and have many goals.

But when I ride my horse, there are completely different things at play: being one with the horse, nature, the world and just feeling and being there. And I love my long rides in Hedeland, Boserup and Tisvilde. After a lot of trailer training, it only takes 10 minutes to pack the car and horse and drive off.

For the last 1.5 years, PellePirat has been on the riding ring and in the riding house – with me pulling the horse and him. He is a herding dog and has tended to want to herd Chakira as well. But with lots of training, it has become almost non-existent. He can also lie down and wait on signal while I ride.

I have then expanded the training and have started to have him on a long line at my side when I rode. At a walk. It took a little time too. It confused him that I was sitting up there and that he still wasn't supposed to herd us. After that I have started to have him on the same long line in the paddock 3-5 times a week. So he can run around and have fun and the horses got used to the long line – both the sound but also that it runs after him. And that it is not dangerous. Likewise, the horses and PellePirat have become much more natural together. PellePirat even goes and drinks water from the water trough with the horses.

Of course, it all happens under supervision and in a healthy and good way for all parties. It has always been the intention that it should be natural for them all to be together.

After that, I have had PellePirat with me in Hedeland for a few months now when I have ridden Chakira. And now – after the long training – we can ride both walk, trot and gallop – with my favorite Pirat without him trying to herd us.

He has understood the concept, and when he is on a ride, he knows that he should follow and not get in front of us. Happiness is made! Both enjoy each other's company. My horse is considerate of him, and he of her. How wonderful that is!!!!

I am the happiest dog and horse owner in the world. One of my biggest dreams has come true – uniting my greatest interests in life.

And yes, we just finished yesterday by riding with my friend and her horse too (who goes to the same paddock as my horse, and is also used to Piraten). And yes, we bathed with the horses and Piraten AND trotted and galloped.

Wow, I'm just saying! When you train for a long time and with the right methods and with consideration for everyone, anything is possible!
