5 suggestions for Easter fun with your dog

5 forslag til påske sjov med hunden

We have collected 5 easy and fun ideas for fun Easter activities with your best friend.

1. Egg hunt
Our dogs love challenges, and they love to use their noses! So why not combine this into a fun activity?

An easy way to stimulate your dog during the Easter holidays can be by going on an egg hunt.

The game is quite simple, and all you need is one or more Easter eggs (made of cardboard or plastic – of course, there must be no chocolate or anything else in them) and some good dog treats.

  • You hide the dog treats in the Easter eggs.
  • Show the egg to the dog and let it sniff it.
  • Then you either go outdoors or into another room and hide the egg in a suitable place.
  • Then ask your dog to look for his egg.
  • Once the egg is found, you of course let the dog get the reward inside.

Always remember to keep a close eye on your dog so that nothing but the treats is eaten.

2. Off on an adventure

For most people, a short Easter holiday like this will mean that you have an extra chance to pamper the VIP member of the family with long walks.

Why not explore new areas? This can stimulate your dog in different ways than they are used to. Plus, it's good for you and your furry friend to spend time together and get some exercise for both of you.
Remember that a well-stimulated dog is a happy dog.

For the dog, the walk is not only an opportunity to go to the toilet, but also an opportunity to "read the newspaper" and experience its surroundings, with all its smells and sounds.

A good tip when walking your dog is to keep it on a leash where required, and if you don't have it under full control, also remember that many beaches are now introducing leash requirements again from April 1st.

3. Make delicious homemade dog treats without chemicals

All dogs love treats, so why not try making them yourself? It's easy, you know 100% what's in them, and they taste great.

We recommend trying “Dogberry”!
The recipe is quite simple – here is everything you need:

  • 150 g raspberries - fresh or frozen, thawed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil or another oil, if your dog doesn't like coconut oil. For example, olive or sunflower oil can be used. If your dog eats anything, oil can be omitted.
  • 50 gr coconut fiber flour

Blend all 3 or 4 ingredients until smooth and pour into a mold. Then bake at 150 degrees for 25 minutes.

4. Teach your dog new fun tricks

Your dog always wants to learn new tricks! Practicing tricks with your dog strengthens your cooperation and stimulates the dog.
The new variety is definitely participating in the “Do More With Your Dog” trick challenges. Here you can earn titles for your dog and eventually end up with a dog that is a Trick Champion!

Among other things, you can teach your dog to give you a kiss!

You can do this in several ways, but here we describe one of the ways.

  • Find a post-it note and use it as a target.
  • First, teach your dog to nuzzle the note in your hand with its nose. If it shows interest in the note, reward it. Everything is fine to start with, whether the dog sniffs or looks at the note.
  • Once this has been repeated a few times, you can raise the criterion for the dog to nibble on the note.
  • Of course, remember to reward a lot for desired behavior.
  • When you are comfortable with dabbing the note in your hand, you can stick it on your cheek instead.
  • As soon as the dog nibbles on the cheek, the pork roast falls, and this is celebrated with a jackpot reward!
  • Once you have put a command on the exercise and repeated it a few times, you can remove the note from the cheek and see if you can get the dog to nibble on the cheek without its target.
  • If this does not happen, you need to take a step back in the training and reward the dog several times for nibbling on the post-it note on its cheek.
  • See the list of tricks for the different trick tests here

5. Hold a dog wellness day

When the sun peeks out, for most of us it also means that the spring shedding has begun.
Therefore, here are a few tips on how you can help your dog get rid of its winter fur with a little wellness day.

Start by giving your dog a good brushing outside in the sunshine. Take your time and enjoy some delicious treats along the way.
Also think about maybe checking the dog's nails, and possibly filing or clipping them, as well as trimming the hair between the pads, etc. Maybe the teeth also need to be checked and possibly brushed.

If you have plenty of time, a bath can be included in your wellness day. Remember to use a shampoo that is specifically designed for dogs. Be careful to rinse the coat thoroughly, as soap residue can cause itching and irritation.

Dry the dog thoroughly and, if necessary, put a drying blanket on it. End the day by giving it a delicious meat bone that can be eaten outside in the sun while the dog dries.

We hope you have a nice Easter with your lovely little ones.
